Emerging from a long day at middle school, the Indigenous O.G.s first found skateboarding on a backyard mini at a buddy’s house. After a long, late night session where only one board was shared among us, we were hooked. A magical world was unveiled, a world we quickly learned was almost out of our reach. In the ’80s, the skate industry was based almost exclusively in California; it was a very small scene in New York. It was a long time, many years, before our borough, the Bronx, would have a shop or local company that promoted skateboarding. Eventually all of that changed. Established in 2006, Indigenous Skateboards acts as a beacon, and supports its local Bronx skate scene, by building brands, opening shops, producing events & more.
